Philoptochos Announcements
Philoptochos Goes Red on Sunday 2/8/26
Philoptochos is Going Red this Sunday February 8, 2026, across the Nation, to raise awareness of the leading cause of death for women - cardiovascular disease. You are encouraged to wear red clothing to show your support for women’s cardiovascular health and bring attention to the efforts to save lives. According to the American Heart Association:
-
Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year. It’s a third of our mothers, sisters, friends, neighbors, coworkers and more. It’s a third of the women we can’t bear to live without.
-
Cardiovascular disease impacts some women at higher rates than others, but the simple truth is that most cardiovascular diseases can still be prevented with education and healthy lifestyle changes.
-
Heart disease and stroke can affect a woman at any age, making it vital for all women to understand their personal risk factors and family history. Women can also experience unique life events that can impact their risk, including pregnancy and menopause. Furthermore, research shows that stress may impact health, making it important for women to understand the mind-body connection and how to focus on improving both their physical health and mental well-being.
-
Losing even one woman to cardiovascular disease is too many.
For additional information please visit the American Heart Association page here https://www.goredforwomen.org/en/about-heart-disease-in-women/facts or https://www.goredforwomen.org/en/about-heart-disease-in-women and join Philoptochos in raising awareness.

OUR FOUNDATION

ABOUT PHILOPTOCHOS
The mission of Philoptochos is to aid the poor and hungry, the aged and sick, and those who have fallen on hard times. Philoptochos promotes charitable, benevolent, and philanthropic services on the National, Diocese, and Local levels. Their goal is to preserve and perpetuate Orthodox Christian concepts and the Orthodox Christian family and to promote the Greek Orthodox Faith and traditions. “The charitable work of Philoptochos shall be performed with discretion, courtesy and kindness,” as stated in the Philoptochos Mission Statement.

WHAT WE DO
Since 1925, the Annunciation Philoptochos Society of Sacramento has channelled its Orthodox Christian faith into tangible service — partnering locally with organizations such as Loaves & Fishes, Bishop Gallegos Maternity Home and the Salvation Army for shelter, food-and-clothing drives, youth programs, homelessness and anti-trafficking efforts; executing special projects like weekend snack backpacks for students and holiday baskets for elders; and extending support beyond Sacramento through national and international relief programs. Fund-raising efforts (pastry sales, cookbooks, fashion-shows, breakfasts) sustain the work, and all women (and men as associates) are invited to join in the spirit of charity, courtesy and compassion.

FUNDRAISERS
Our fundraisers bring the community together while supporting meaningful causes. From our beloved Dial a Baklava pastry sale to cookbooks, raffles, and themed events, every effort helps us raise funds for families in need, medical aid, education, and community programs. With every treat sold or ticket bought, you're helping us do more good.
